What did you do this past week?

This week I tried to get myself back into a normal schedule after not having classes for a week and a half. I also began working on the IDB project with my group and studied for other classes.

What’s in your way?

I have been struggling a bit with getting back into the swing of classes after the winter storm last week, but I am hopeful that with time the semester will start to feel normal again. Also, I have not used many of the tools needed for phase 1 of the project so I am excited to learn more about them.

What will you do next week?

Next week I will work with my group on phase 1 of the project. I will also study for an exam I have on Thursday and complete assignments for other classes.

If you read it, what did you think of the Single Responsibility Principle?

The paper presented ideas that I am familiar with, but I had never heard the different parts of a task described as responsibilities. It made sense and I will try to keep this idea in mind while working on the IDB project.

What was your experience of IDB1 and reduce?

My group had a little bit of trouble coming up with a project idea but we eventually came up with a project that we are excited about and got our project proposal approved. Reduce was pretty straightforward, although I had to stop myself from overcomplicating it and adding edge cases that weren’t necessary.

How did you fare in the storm?

My family didn’t have power from Monday morning until Tuesday afternoon but we didn’t lose power again after Tuesday night. Overall we were very fortunate in that we never lost water and we didn’t have any pipes burst, but I know several people who are dealing with damage related to the storm.

What made you happy this week?

The weather was very nice this week, reaching 80˚after temperatures got as low as -2˚ during the storm, and I enjoyed being able to take walks outside after being stuck inside the week before.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

A genealogy website called MyHeritage introduced a tool called Deep Nostalgia that can animate photos using deepfake technology. Personally I find this kind of creepy, but I could see how some people might like to see their ancestors move and smile.
